I was born in St.vincent, WI came to the Unite States when I was 13. I am very out going and I love sports. My favorite sport is tennis. I enjoy playing as well as watching. I am also a mamber of the USTA.
With The advent of social media, we now find ourselves interacting with one another via the internet. Although this medium is a great achievement for mankind, I believe that there should be stronger guidelines regarding age restriction on all social media. With that said, my blog of choice is the blogger. It is easier to navigate and less overwhelming. If I am going to use a blog in my classroom it would be the blogger because I think younger children will be able to effectively use this site. I am totally against elementary school children blogging independently. However collectively as a class, we can use the blogger to communicate with other classrooms across the country as well as the globe. I can use the blogger to post information about upcoming event in my class for parents/caregivers, communicate with other classrooms/teachers within the school and much more. I think the blogger’s website is straight forward, has no pop-up ads and is not as cluttered as other sites. Therefore if this class is going to use a blog as part of the learning process and as future teachers we are suppose to mirror what we have learned when we become teachers, then the blog I would like the class to use as part of our learning experience is the blogger.
In the article a Well-Regulated Wilderness by Michael Lipsky, Lipsky reflected on his experience camping with his son, brother and nephews in the Pasayten Wilderness. He applied his encounter as proof “that humans can be self-regulated.” According to Lipsky, their camping site was reused repeatedly as a way to minimize damage to the environment and litter was rare. He also states that there was no park ranger to check their reservation and no rules instructing them on how to set camp. The Pasayten Wilderness is located in Washington State near the Canadian border. It is “850 square miles of forest and gentle mountains.” Wilderness areas are managed with minimal interference with natural processes. “In 1964 congress passed the Wilderness Act, which set aside 9.1 million acres of public land as places where people would be visitor but not leave any marks. Today 108 million acres is protected under that act.” According to the author, America is engage in a great debate about the role of government and the extent of its reach. However in the middle of the mountains, with the absent of law enforcement, they were allowed the illusion that they were beyond their reach. I think this article was fascinating because it conveyed the author’s perspective on the role of government as well as provide information about the Wilderness Act and the need for such places as refuge from daily rules and regulations. This article can be use for instruction by illustrating how one can write about ones’ opinion all the while educating your reader by providing information they may or may not know. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/14/opinion/a-well-regulated-wilderness.html?_r=1
